Playwright, author and co-author of a number of plays produced on Broadway in the 1920's and 30's, including "Harlem" (1929; on which he collaborated with Wallace Thurman), "Whirlpool" (1929) and "Substitute for Murder" (1935). His first play, "Osman Pasha" (1925) is generally considered practically un-actable, but nonetheless sold well. Also author of the novel "Poolroom" (1938), and editor of "True Stories" magazine.
