Event Date: 11 Jul 1870
Event Place: Jo Daviess, Illinois

Died in this city Sunday night, of bronchial infection, aged 89 years and 16 days. Mr. Larkin has been a resident of this city since February 1870, and had been continually in business here until last sprng, then his fast declining health caused him to retire from active mercantile life. Mr. Larkin came to this city a poor young man without friends, but with plenty of energy. He first opened a harness shop in a small building on South Main street near the bridge, in the front room of which he had a stock of candies. From this unauspicious beginning, Mr. Larkin, by strict integrity and application to business, became one of our most properous merchants and accumulated a snug fortune.
On July 11, 1870 he married Miss Joanna Burke, of Galeana who survives him.
His funeral took place on Wednesday, Rev. Father Hannon officiating. The esteem in which Mr. Larkin was held by his fellow citizen manifested by the large number who attended the obsequies.
