He is survived by wife Velma Kending; three sons Daniel (Kay) Kending of Cascade, MD, Martin (Barbara) Kending of Hagerstown, MD., and Jerome (Susan) Tolene of Lincoln, AL, daughters Kathy (Ken) Simpson of Oxford, MI, and Susan (Robert) Kending of Trego WI, and Ellen Hudson of Hagerstown, MD; one brother, Paul (Candy) Kending of Minong; sister-in-law, Reberta Kending of Spooner, WI; 18 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceeded in death by his parents Herny and Ethel; brothers Albert and Robert; sisters Marcia Pratt, Elanor Roth, Grace Swanson, and Ethel Snell; one Daughter, Janet; son-in-law Donald Pflug and Robert hudson; and one grandson Robert Pflug III.

Age: 77
of Trego, died on Tuesday, Oct. 19, 2004, at Spooner Health System.

He was born in Lampson on Aug. 31, 1927, to Henry and Ethel (Demerest) Kending. He married Velma (Langdon) Tolene on Dec. 28, 1972. He was a graduate of Spooner High School and received a bachelor of arts degree from St. Cloud State College and a master's degree from Frostburg State College in Maryland.

After high school he was a truck driver before enlisting in the U. S. Army. He served in World War II and Korea, later teaching industrial arts for 24 years in Maryland, Minong, and Anthon, Iowa.

After retirement, he built his retirement home in Trego. He was a "teacher" the rest of his life to anyone who needed help.

He belonged to the Springbrook American Legion and the Springbrook Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was a Master Mason in Spooner Lodge #260 and Hayward Lodge #263. He was also a member of Spooner Commandry #40KT, Spooner Council #46, and Chapter #85 RAM.

He recently was honored to become a member of Knights of the York Cross of Honors.

He is survived by his wife; three sons, Daniel (Kay) Kending of Cascade, Md., Martin (Barbara) Kending of Hagerstown, Md., and Jerome (Susan) Tolene of Lincoln, Ala.; three daughters, Ellen Hudson of Hagerstown, Md., Kathy (Ken) Simpson of Oxford, Mich., and Susan (Robert) Kending of Trego; one brother, Paul (Candy) Kending of Minong; sister-in-law, Roberta Kending of Spooner; 18 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

The funeral was held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 23, at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church in Spooner. Fr. Andrew Ricci was celebrant.

Visitation was from 4 to 8 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 22, at Dahl Funeral Home in Spooner. A Masonic service was held at 7 p.m. and a prayer service at 7:30 p.m.

Interment was in Greenwood Cemetery in Minong. Military rites were accorded by the Springbrook VFW Honor Guard.
