GENE ORMAN
Carol Eugene "Gene" Orman, 82, of Chariton, died at 8:15 a.m. on December 20, 2012 at Fleur Heights Care Center in Des Moines. He was born on November 28, 1930 in Ottumwa to Harley Orman and Clarcey Randall Orman.
He married Katherine Virginia Creech on January 15, 1955.
A 1949 graduate of Ottumwa High School, he served 33 years in the Iowa National Guard and retired as Sergeant First Class. He was qualified in the 88 armored recovery vehicle. Afer his service, he drove and maintained semi-trucks.
Gene enjoyed hunting, fishing, farming, woodworking, bowling and gardening. He always made the best of what life had to offer. During his four years at Fleur Heights Care Center, he worked on puzzles, played Bingo and was Resident of the month in April 2011.
Gene is survived by his wife, Katherine; daughter, Renee Smith of Carlisle, Iowa; sons, Roger of Russell, Iowa, Randy of Chariton, Iowa and Rusty of Ottumwa, Iowa; plus four grandchildren and 5 step-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, 3 brothers and 2 sisters.
Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, December 24, 2012 at the Fielding Funeral Home with Pastor Paul Olson officiating. Interment was in the Chariton Cemetery.
