She passed away without a struggle, from heart failure, gliding from peaceful slumber into her last long sleeve. Three of her sons were with her, and all her family were nearly overcome with grief at her departure without even a fond farewell.
The deceased was born in Haverhill, New Hampshire, May 28, 1832. She was married to J.W. Chapman, Jan. 10, 1853, at Haverhill. Of this union six sons were born, the youngest of whom, Sherman H., at the age of 22 preceded her to the grave.
In 1855 they came to Warren, Ill., shortly after which they moved on a farm in Wayne, Wis. In 1889 they moved to South Wayne where she has since resided, her husband dying Feb. 4, 1904.
She was widely known and highly respected; she was a loving wife, and a kind affectionate mother, always mindful of her family's comfort.
There are left to mourn her loss five sons, two sisters, Mrs. H.B. Sherman and Mrs. C.H. Carr, both of Beaver Dam, and one brother, C.S. Ladd of Merrimack, Wis. besides many friends.
Mrs. Chapman was laid to rest Aug. 6, in the Eastman Cemetery, the services being conducted by Rev. Carver of Browntown.
