Kingsport - Ellis Gray Gilley, 78, went to be with the Lord Dec 2, 2002 at his home in Kingsport.

He was born on April 4, 1924 in Big Stone Gap, VA, a son of the late John and Anna Gilley. He served six years in the US Navy in both World War II and the Korean Was. He was a first class petty officer and received several medals associated with the Asiatic/Pacific campaigns.

Mr. Gilley was a member of the VFW and a Master Mason of Masonic Lodge #688. He was retired from the Kingsport Press after 42 years of service.

He was a member of the Glenwood Baptist Church.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister and one brother, Mary Ann Natonick and Harry Gilley.

Surviving are his wife of 53 years, Pauline Church Gilley; two sons, Michael Gilley and his wife Debbie, and Jim Gilley and his wife Libby; three grandchildren, Jennifer, James and Meghan; sisters, Eileen Campbell, Rita Fay Knight and Anita Powers; a brother Leslie Gilley; sever nieces and nephews.

Services were conducted Wednesday in the East Lawn Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. John Toney and the Rev. Frank Proffitt officiating.

Music was under the direction of Mary Barker.

Graveside service was in the garden of Good Shepherd of the East Lawn Memorial Park. Flag presented by the American Legion Post 3/265.
