Minister. Pastor of Historic Ebenezer Baptist Church in Atlanta, Georgia for 30 years. During his 30-year tenure as senior pastor, Roberts become known across the country for the quality of leadership that kept Ebenezer as a strong voice for the oppressed and an advocate for justice. He instituted expansive community outreach programs, including a teenage mother's ministry, tutoring programs, counseling, a food co-op and a seniors' day care center. In 1999, the building of the church's Horizon Sanctuary was completed. He was the recipient of numerous honors and awards (including five honorary doctorates) and was listed as an outstanding clergy person by Ebony magazine. In 2006, Roberts published a collection of sermons titled “Sideswiped by Eternity: Sermons from Ebenezer Baptist Church.” He was honored by the Samuel DeWitt Proctor Conference in 2014 and was a founder of the Higher Ground Group 2010 to 2015, an interdenominational group of Atlanta faith leaders raising awareness of issues affecting the greater Atlanta community. Robert's died at age 79 from heart failure.
