Bio

I'm a writer and English and history teacher who's fascinated with American and East Asian history, as well as architecture, ruins, tragedy, nature, blues, jazz, and justice. At the University of Southern California, I won a teaching award, and I've had essays published in the L.A. Times, International Herald Tribune, Minneapolis Star Tribune, New Haven Register, L.A. Weekly, L.A. Reader, and the journal called Bakunin, as well as poems in River's Edge. I love traveling, exploring, and writing, along with the original "Planet of the Apes" film, documentaries, Frank Lloyd Wright buildings, the Antonia Bird movie called "Priest, and snorkeling. I've completed the manuscript for my first book, a collection of history-travel stories entitled "All Roads Lead to My Lai: An American Exile's Asian Odyssey."
I'm the associate editor of American Heritage magazine.
