Lois Marie Roach, the daughter of Allen and Edna (Crocker) Bergman was born January 16, 1933 at Nodaway, Iowa. She died Tuesday, August 9, 2011 at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital, Red Oak, Iowa, at the age of 78 years, 6 months and 24 days. Lois was raised on a farm near Nodaway and at the age of 10, along with her family moved to a farm south of Corning. She graduated from Corning High School. Following graduation, she moved to Shenandoah, Iowa and worked as a telephone operator. Lois met the love of her life, a gentleman from Red Oak named "Fred" at a social event on St. Patrick's Day. On June 9, 1952, Lois was united in marriage to James Frederick "Fred" Roach in Shenandoah, Iowa. They moved to Red Oak, where they have lived their whole marriage. Lois had worked for Good Samaritan Society and volunteered with the Senior Citizens Center. She was an artist and enjoyed painting, ceramics, and macramé. She loved to swim, making many trips to the pool at the Lied Center in Clarinda. Lois was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Red Oak. Lois was preceded in death by her parents; son, Christopher on June 4, 2009; granddaughter, Isabella DeRoeck; brother, John Bergman and brother-in-law, Allen Fichter. Lois is survived by her husband of 59 years: J. Frederick Roach of Red Oak, IA; six daughters and one son along with their spouses: Monica & Tom Gerhart of Papillion, NE; Teresa & Rick Harrison of Red Oak, IA; Marilyn & Dick Paul of Red Oak, IA; Barb & Marc Florez of Omaha, NE; Rita & Bob Williams of Council Bluffs, IA; Sarah & Robb DeRoeck of Monroe, MI; and Mike & Judye Roach of Temecula, CA; 14 grandchildren: Amy Gerhart, Christine Gerhart, Mike Gerhart, Becca Harrison, Angie & Cory Watts, Cathy & Jim Fox, Travis & Julia Paul, Steven Paul, Brian Paul, Jason Heckman, Daniel & Cherie Heckman, Sally Williams, Robey DeRoeck and Ian DeRoeck; six great-grandchildren: Haylee & Caitlin Fox, Owen & Nora Paul, and Jonathan & Emily Heckman; two sisters: Marjorie Fichter of Shenandoah, IA and Irene Shepherd and husband Harold of Prescott, IA; other relatives and a host of friends. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, August 12, 2011 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Red Oak Burial in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery Father Tom Kunnel and Father Ken Gross, Officiating Wake service will be held at Sellergren-Lindell-DeMarce Funeral Home on Thursday, August 11, 2011 beginning at 6:00 p.m. with visitation to follow until 8:00 p.m. Memorials to St. Mary's Catholic Church or Charity of Choice. Sellergren-Lindell-DeMarce Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
