HARVEY, MI - Kathleen M. "Kay" Maynard, age 85, of Harvey, passed away at Eastwood Nursing Center in Negaunee on Saturday evening, April 22, 2017, surrounded in the loving, comforting care of her children.

Kay was born April 21, 1932, in Marquette, the daughter of Jerome Harry "Pete" and Kathryn Cecelia (Sharland) LaRue.

On June 11, 1949, Kay was united in marriage to Paul Edward Maynard in Marquette. Throughout the years, Kay and Paul resided in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Chelsea, Michigan, and Munising, Michigan as Paul's employments took him to various locations. The couple moved back to the Marquette area in 1975. Kay served as a recess and lunchtime playground supervisor at the Silver Creek Elementary School for over 30 years and as an Avon representative for over 20 years. She was a devoted wife, mother, and homemaker to her husband and seven children, and served as the family matriarch, keeping all her family close and connected.

During the years they were raising a family, the couple often took their children on camping outings. In retirement, Kay and Paul enjoyed winter trips to Arizona and Vegas, visiting with family and friends. Kay was a member of St. Louis the King Catholic Church in Harvey.

Kay is survived by her children, Daniel Paul (Julie) Maynard, Debbra Lynn Maynard, Robert Francis (Georgianna) Maynard, Thomas Lawrence Maynard, William Joseph (Mary) Maynard, Joanne Kathleen (Donald) O'Neill, and Marianne Laura Maynard.

She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Colleen LaRue; sisters, Marilyn Schmeltzer, Patricia (Rudy) Jensen; brother, Pete (Marilyn) LaRue; sisters, Jacqueline Beaudry and Mary Ann (Thomas) Parsons; 14 grandchildren, Christopher (Luis) Adam (Laura), and Mark Maynard, Benjamin (Alissa) and Andrew (Jodie) Hurley, Tanya (Josef) Whitney, Jessica (Daniel) DeRoche, and Timothy Maynard, Chelsea (Jason) Hart, Pamela deVeaux, Eric McQuaid, Sarah and Casey O'Neill, and Matthew Menze; 10 great-grandchildren, Austin, Sebastian, Mason, Nicholas, Ethan, Walker, Anastasia, Ella, Adalynn, and Cameron; a great great-grandchild, Isaiah; numerous nieces and nephews.

Kay was preceded in death by her parents; her husband and favorite dancing partner of 62 years, Paul Maynard; a brother, Thomas LaRue; sisters and their husbands, Rosemary (Martin) Diedrich and Rochelle (Mac) McAuliffe; brothers-in-law, Richard Schmeltzer and Louis Beaudry; and grandson, Jason Maynard.

The family will receive relatives and friends at St. Louis the King Catholic Church, Harvey, on Thursday, April 27, beginning at 10:00 am. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 12:00 noon Thursday with Rev. Glenn Theoret, pastor, as celebrant. A reception will follow in Father Gauthier Hall. Interment will be made in the Holy Cross Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Lake Superior Hospice Association, 914 W. Baraga Avenue, Marquette, MI 49855, or Alzheimer's Disease Research at Mayo Clinic, Department of Development, Mayo Clinic, P.O. Box 450, Albert Lea, MN 56007-9849.
