Idaho Governor. After attending at National Business College Minnesota, he moved to Arco, Idaho, in 1910 and was owner-publisher of the Arco Advisor. During World War I, he served as a Corporal in the U.S. Army. After the war, he resumed his newspaper interests, was a member of the Idaho House of Representatives, (1921-23, 27, 29-30) and was chairman of the Republican State Central Committee, (1936-38). In 1939, he was elected as a Republican the 17th Governor of Idaho, serving until 1941 and was reelected as the 19th Governor of Idaho, serving (1943-45). After leaving office, he was co-director of the Interim Committee on Reorganization of State Government, was chief clerk of the Idaho House of Representatives, (1949-57) and was a member of the Idaho State Senate, (1958, 60). He died from emphysema at age 72.
