Civil War Medal of Honor Recipient. He served as a Private in the Union Army in Company G, 187th New York Infantry. He was awarded the Medal of Honor for action on October 27, 1864 at Hatcher's Run, Virginia. His citation reads "This soldier and two others, voluntarily and under fire, rescued several wounded and helpless soldiers."
