"RMS Titanic" Disaster Victim. He and his three older sons received fame for being one of the more than 1,500 passengers who perished in the sinking of the RMS "Titanic," which has been called one of history's deadliest peacetime commercial marine disasters. He was the son of Kristina Adlene Samuelson of Repperda, Gustafsgård, Ädelfors, Jönköping. He married Selma Augusta Emilia Johansson. They were the parents of five children: Filip Oscar, Clarence Gustaf Hugo, Carl Edgar, Lillian Gertrud and Felix Rojj. At the time of the disaster, the Asplunds were returning to the United States from Sweden traveling third class on board the "Titanic." He and Selma had emigrated to the United States some years before and were married there. Their first three children were born in the United States before they returned to Sweden, where the younger children were born. Although he and his three sons were lost in the disaster, his wife, daughter Lillian, and youngest son Felix were rescued. His body was recovered, yet his three sons' bodies never were. His two surviving children never married. According to the Titanic Encyclopedia, neither his wife or mother claimed the monetary compensation offered to them by Mason House Relief Fund.
