Saint of the Roman Catholic Church. He was a native of the Iberian Peninsula. Religious since adolescence, he began his teaching as a preacher in rural areas of Spain, also founding places of worship and monasteries. His religious activity was particularly appreciated by King Alphonse III who was his supporter and protector. In fact, thanks to his intervention at the Holy See, Atilanus was appointed bishop of Zamora (day of Pentecost of 900). His name and his religious work are documented in the Roman Martyrology and in the chronicles written between 909 and 916, even though the details of his death due to his faith are not precise. He was canonized in the 12th century presumably by Pope Urbanus II and some of his relics rest in the cathedral of Toledo.
