Monegasque Nobility. Eldest son of Honore I, upon his father's death he became Lord of Monaco (1581) inheriting a difficult political and economic situation resulting from the alternating influences of the powerful neighbors Spain and France. However, in 1582, he successfully confronted the French armies and started a political line under Spanish protection. In 1583, Charles II consolidated, "cum popularibus suffragii", his position as monarch of the Principality also thanks to the resistance towards the attempts of influence of the Duchy of Savoy. He died very young at the age of thirty-three.
