Crimean War Victoria Cross Medal Recipient. He served as a Sergeant in the 90th of Foot Regiment, British Army. At the assault on the Redan, Crimea, September 8, 1857, Sergeant Moynihan, personally killed five Russians and while under heavy fire also rescued a wounded officer. For extreme gallantry in the face of the enemy he was promoted Sergeant Major and awarded the Victoria Cross Medal. He also later achived the rank of Captain.
