Kenyan Vice-President. Wamalwa served as the Vice- President of Kenya from January 3, 2003 until his death on August 23, 2003. Wamalwa was born in 1944 in Kitale, Trans-Nzoia District, Rift Valley Province, Kenya, and educated at St. Joseph's Primary School, Chewoyet Secondary School, Stratmore College, King's College, and Cambride University from 1965 to 1968, where he received a Bachelor of Laws Degree. In 1969 he did his Masters of Law Degree at the London School of Economics and was later admitted as a Barrister to the London Inn. In 1979 he entered politics, and contested the General Elections, helping to oust Wafula Wabuge. He won the General Elections again in 1983 and 1988. In 1997 his party lost status of the official opposition to Mwai Kibaki's Democratic Party, but they came forth with 8.1% of the votes. He was elected Vice-President of Kenya on December 27, 2002, under the National Rainbow Coalition (NARC), and took office a week later. Wamalwa also served as a Lecturer In Law at the University of Nairobi from 1970 to 1976, General Manager of the Kenya Stone Mining Company from 1976 to 1979, Parliamentary Secretary of the Kenya African National Union from 1983 to 1988, Second Vice-President of the FORD-Kenya Party in September 1992, Chairman of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC), Leader of the Opposition in the Parliament of Kenya from 1994 to 1997, and Chairman for The Restauration of Democracy for the FORD-Kenya Party from 1994 to 2003.
