In that series, American League batting champ, Ty Cobb, went one-for-eleven against Adams (.090). He is still credited as the only rookie to win three games in a single World Series, and is one of only two rookies to start and win a World series Game 7 (a feat matched by John Lackey of the Anaheim Angels in 2002). He retired after a 17-year career. In his sixties during World War II, Adams covered the war in the Pacific as a foreign correspondent, and later covered the Korean War while in his seventies.
