U.S. Congressman. He graduated from the law department of the University of Kansas, in 1917 and served as a First Lieutenant in the 314th Trench Mortar Battery, 89th Division, U.S. Army, during World War I. After the war, he was admitted to the bar and opened a law firm in Cody, Wyoming, in 1921. He was Mayor of Cody, (1930-32), trustee of the University of Wyoming, (1933-34) and also engaged in banking. In 1935, he was elected as a Democrat to the Seventy-fourth and Seventy-fifth Congresses, serving until 1939. An unsuccessful candidate for reelection, he resumed the practice of law, until he accidentally shot himself to death while cleaning a shotgun at age 51.
