US Congressman, South Carolina Governor. He served as the Governor of South Carolina from 1844 to 1846. He was later elected to represent South Carolina's 2nd and 6th Districts in the United States House of Representatives, serving from 1851 to 1857. He was the first cousin of Confederate Officer and Congressman David Wyatt Aiken.
