US Congressman. Born in Plymouth, Connecticut, he was successful the lumber business before moving to Harpursville, New York. There he was postmaster of Harpursville from 1830 to 1839, a member of the New York State Assembly from 1836 to 1837, and judge of the Broome County Court. In 1838, he was elected as a Democrat represent New York’s 20th Congressional District in the United States House of Representatives, and served a single term from 1839 to 1841. After leaving the Congress, he relocated to St. Louis, Missouri, where he engaged in the produce, lumber, marble and grocery businesses, until his death at age 83.
