Voice Actor. He is best remembered as the falsetto voice of Walt Disney Studios Mickey Mouse. He was only the third person to voice the iconic animated character. Walt Disney was the first, James "Jimmy" Macdonald was the second, and Wayne was the third. Born in Glendale, California, he began in the entertainment business early, making his first television appearance at age seven as a child interviewed by television personality Art Linkletter on the daytime variety talk show "House Party" (1952-1969). In high school, he formed his own music group, "The International Singers," which performed in clubs and colleges around California. As a solo performer he went on to record with such singers as Bobby Vinton and Dobie Gray. In 1966, Allwine sought a position in the mail room at The Walt Disney Studios, in Burbank, California. He worked briefly in wardrobe, then moved to Audio Post Production working under the studio's resident sound effects wizard, Jimmy Macdonald. Allwine worked in sound effects editing on Disney films and television shows. Some of his credits include, "Splash" (1984) and "Three Men and a Baby" (1987); "Innerspace" (1987) for Amblin Entertainment, "Alien Nation" (1988) for American Entertainment Partners II L.P, and "Star Trek V: The Final Frontier" (1989) for Paramount Pictures. In 1977, he attended an open audition for the voice of Mickey Mouse, and won the part. He made his debut on "The New Mickey Mouse Club" (1977-1978). He has since provided Mickey's voice for Disney theme parks, motion pictures, television specials, recorded media, and video games. In the role of Mickey Mouse, he has starred in motion pictures such as "Mickey's Christmas Carol" (1983), "The Prince and the Pauper" (1990), and "Mickey, Donald, and Goofy: The Three Musketeers" (2004). For television in the role of Mickey Mouse, he has starred in the series "Mickey's Mouse Works" (1999-2000), "House of Mouse" (2001-2002), and "Mickey Mouse Clubhouse" (2006-2008). He was married to Russi Taylor, from 1991 until his death. She is the current voice of Minnie Mouse, as well as voicing the characters of Martin Prince, Sherri and Terri, and Üter Zörker on the animated FOX television series "The Simpsons." They own the production company, Taylor-Allwine Associates. Wayne received the Emmy Award and MPSE Golden Reel Award for his contributions to Steven Spielberg's NBC television series "Amazing Stories" (1985-1987), and a second MPSE Golden Reel for his work on the motion picture "The Great Mouse Detective" (1986). Motion Picture Sound Editors (MPSE) Golden Reel Awards acknowledge the year's best work in the various areas of sound editing: Dialogue & Looping, Effects & Foley, and Music. Allwine humbly reflects on Mickey Mouse, "It's a great honor to keep alive what Walt loved so dearly and what Jimmy kept alive so well." Wayne bought the marker for his mentor Jimmy Macdonald's grave. Wayne Allwine died at the UCLA Medical Center in Los Angeles, California from complications related to diabetes. (bio by: katzizkidz)
