After his first notable movie performance in the 1948 picture "Green Grass of Wyoming", he had notable roles in the films "Yellow Sky" (1948), "Twelve O'Clock High" (1949), "September Affair" (1950), "Air Cadet" (1951), "Ace in the Hole" (1951), "The Ring" (1952), "Take the High Ground!" (1953), "Top of the World" (1955) and "Hellcats of the Navy" (1957). His television program credits include "The Lone Ranger", "Four Star Playhouse" and "Gomer Pyle, USMC". In addition to his acting, Arthur had a successful career as a radio announcer. He later became a gay rights advocate.
