US Congressman. He was admitted to the bar in 1816, commenced law practice in Virginia until he was nominated in 1818 as delegate candidate for the Territory of Arkansas. In 1819, he was elected as first Delegate from Arkansas to the Sixteenth and Seventeenth Congresses, serving until 1823. A unsuccessful candidate for reelection, he resumed legal practice and served as a Arkansas Judicial Superior Court Judge from 1824 to 1836.
