Musician. He gained fame as an orchestra conductor and music composer who led the orchestra of the Slovak National Opera and Slovak Philharmonic in Bratislava. He studied composition with A. Moyzes and conducting with J. Vincourek at the Bratislava Conservatory, graduating in 1938 before studying with Pizzetti at the Accademia di Santa Cecilia in Rome from 1939 to 1942. Returning to Czechoslovakia, he served as conductor of the Slovak National Theater in Bratislava from 1942 to 1949, followed by the Kosice Opera from 1949 to 1952. In 1953, he was appointed chief opera conductor of the Slovak National Opera. He was known for his comedies "Certova stena" in 1949 and "V piatok trinásteho" in 1954. By 1985, he had dedicated a third of his performances to children. Besides appearing in theaters, he was heard on radio and television later in his career. His recording "Tibor Freso Bartolome J Urbanec: Songs" was released in 2018. Although some of his music is listed among the "unsung" Slovak composers, his music can still be heard on the BBC in the 21st century.
