Major League Baseball Player. For ten seasons (1946 to 1947, 1949 to 1955 and 1957), he was a left-handed pitcher with the Cleveland Indians, Chicago White Sox, Washington Senators, New York Yankees, Baltimore Orioles, Philadelphia Phillies, Pittsburgh Pirates and St. Louis Cardinals. Born Robert Leroy Kuzava, he was signed by the Cleveland Indians as an amateur free agent in 1941. His career was interrupted while he served with the United States Army during World War II. He made his Major League debut with Cleveland on September 21, 1946 and pitched in 3 games that year. After he was acquired by the Chicago White Sox, he recorded 10 wins in 1949 and in 1951, he produced a career-high 11 wins as he split time between the Nationals and Yankees. During his years with the Yankees, he experienced three world championships and pitched in 3 World Series contests. In 213 career regular season games, he compiled a 49 win, 44 loss record, with a lifetime 4.05 ERA, in 862 innings pitched. After retiring as a player, he briefly served as a Minor League manager.
