Actress. Popular during the 1930s and early-1940s. She appeared in many of the Three Stooges shorts as a supporting actress and was in over 50 films, including Under Eighteen (1931), As the Earth Turns (1934), Charlie Chan in Paris (1935), Riffraff (1936), Stagecoach (1939), The Spook Speaks (1940) and Manpower (1941). In 1923, Rudolph Valentino and his wife came to Maine as promoters of Mineralava Beauty Clay. In the local beauty pageant, the teenager was declared by Valentino as the "Most Beautiful Example of American Womanhood." She advanced to the 1924 national Mineralava Beauty Pageant in New York City, but did not win. She was informally dubbed Miss Maine 1923. She moved to New York City with her mother, Nora (Foley) Appleby to pursue an acting career. In 1931, she married Morgan Hughes Galloway, but they divorced in 1932. She later moved to Los Angeles, California with her mother, where she continued in the film industry. She married big band leader, Paul Drake, after retiring from Hollywood in 1943.
