Musician, Singer, Songwriter. Born Christopher John Boyle in Seattle, Washington, he was best known as the frontman for the rock bands Soundgarden, Temple of the Dog & Audioslave. In 1984, he helped form Soundgarden with Hiro Yamamoto & Kim Thayil. Initially their first drummer, Cornell switched to rhythm guitar to focus on singing with Scott Sundquist joining the band as their second drummer in 1985. Soundgarden first recorded on the compilation album, Deep Six (1986) and released its first single, "Hunted Down" in 1987, followed by two EPs. Their debut album 'Ultramega OK', was released the following year in 1988. Signing with A&M Records, they released their second album, 'Louder Than Love' in 1989. The band released their third album, 'Badmotorfinger' in 1991 during the swell of attention that was beginning to surround the Seattle music scene, where bands like Alice in Chains, Nirvana and Pearl Jam were playing a high-octane, high-angst brand of rock 'n' roll called grunge. Three of Soundgarden's subsequent albums would go on to be certified platinum, including 1994's 'Superunknown', which featured "Black Hole Sun", "Fell on Black Days", "Spoonman" and "My Wave". The group, which included guitarist Kim Thayil, bassist Ben Shepherd and drummer Matt Cameron, disbanded in 1997, but reunited in 2010 and had performed regularly since then. Cornell released five solo albums during and after his time with Soundgarden, starting with 'Euphoria Morning' in 1999. He also contributed the song "Seasons" to the soundtrack of 'Singles' (1992), a romantic comedy film about the Seattle music scene, and performed alongside other members of Soundgarden in the film. In 2001, Cornell and former members of Rage Against the Machine (RATM) (Brad Wilk, Tim Commerford & Tom Morello) formed Audioslave. The group released three albums before announcing its split in 2007. In 2016, he toured with another supergroup, Temple of the Dog, which featured a blend of members from Soundgarden and Pearl Jam. Temple of the Dog released their only studio album in 1991 to critical and commercial success.
