Actress. Born Sheila Phyllis Berman into a Jewish, New York family, she began her association with the Broadway stage at the age of sixteen, as a dancer in the production "Artists and Models" (1943). She worked her way from minor roles in "Allah Be Praised!" (1944) and "Street Scene" (1947), prior to being cast in multiple parts for the successful musical "Make Mine Manhattan" (1948 to 1949), of which starred Sid Caesar. She will perhaps be remembered for playing 'Fay Fromkin' in the Joshua Logan production of "Wish You Were Here" (1952 to 1953), for which earned her a Tony Award. She followed this with the play "Lunatics and Lovers" (1954 to 1955). In addition to the stage, she was busy as a guest singer and dancer on such TV programs as "The Colgate Comedy Hour", "Texas Star Theatre" and "The Ed Sullivan Show", as well as an actress in episodes from the shows "The Plymouth Playhouse" and "Playhouse 90." She had a role of substance playing 'Joan Shipley' in the comedy farce "The Marrying Kind" (1952), for which starred Judy Holliday and briefly appeared in Woody Allen's "Broadway Danny Rose" (1985).
