Professional Basketball Executive. He was well known as the general manager of the National Basketball Association's Chicago Bulls during their championship run of the 1990s. He attended Bradley University and after college, went to work as a scout for the NBA's Baltimore Bullets. He would go on to work for various NBA teams during the 1970s before going to work as a scout for Major League Baseball's Chicago White Sox. In 1985 he received a call from Chicago Bulls owner Jerry Reinsdorf to be general manager of the team. He would go on to build the Bulls around star player Michael Jordan and hired Phil Jackson to coach the team. The Bulls would win the NBA championship six times (1991-1993, 1996-1998) during his tenure as G.M.. After Jordan and Jackson left the team following the 1998 season, he had to start rebuilding the team. He didn't have the success that he earlier had with the team. He would retire as G.M. after the 2003 season. He was a two-time recipient of the NBA's Executive of the Year. After leaving the Bulls, he went back to baseball to work as a scout for several Major League teams.
