Professional Football Player. For six seasons (1946 to 1951), he played at the defensive and offensive tackle positions in the All-America Football Conference and National Football League with the Los Angeles Dons, New York Yankees and New York Yanks. Born Paul Anthony Mitchell, he attended Edison High School in Minnesota, where he made his initial mark on the football field. He played collegiate football at the University of Minnesota and while with the Golden Gophers, he achieved All-Big Ten honors, as he contributed to Minnesota's capturing of the National Championship in 1941. In 1943, he was named team MVP and captain, while earning All-American honors. He was selected by the combined Chicago/Pittsburgh Cards/Steelers team during the second round of the 1944 NFL Draft, however the start of his professional football career was interrupted while he served with the United States Navy during World War II. Following his return home, he was signed by Los Angeles of the All-America Football Conference. He moved on to the New York Yankees of the All-American Football Conference and following the league's folding after the 1949 season, Mitchell joined the NFL as part of the team which was once known as the New York Bulldogs (name changed to the New York Yanks) in 1950. He retired after compiling 69 career regular season AAFC and NFL games. Following his football career, he became a business executive and founded his own real estate company. He was inducted into the University of Minnesota "M" Club Hall of Fame in 2002.
