Author. He created the "Inspector Morse" detective novel series. His father was a taxi driver, Colin served with the Royal Corps of Signals and later received his bachelor's degree in Classical Reading from Christ's College at Cambridge. Following his graduation, he served as an assistant classics master at Wyggeston School in Leicester. He earned his Master's degree from Cambridge and found a position at a grammar school. In 1975, he penned his first "Inspector Morse" novel titled "The Last Bus to Woodstock" and over the next twenty-four years, he wrote twelve more books to the series. The character was made into a long-running TV series (1987 to 2000) which starred John Thaw as "Inspector Morse". In 2000, Dexter was given the Order of the British Empire (OBE) for his contributions to Literature.
