Poet, Author. He was appointed the first Poet Laureate Consultant in Poetry to the Library of Congress from 1937 and 1941. He wrote the following books: The Winged Horse: The Story of the Poets and Their Poetry (1929), More Than Bread: A Book of Poems by Joseph Auslander (1936), Cyclops' Eye (1926)and No Traveler Returns (1933). He joined with his poet wife to write: My Uncle Jan (1948) and The Islanders (1951). He also obtained the Robert Frost Prize for Poetry in 1964.
