McCorvey's name was not revealed. She was represented as Jane Roe. The defendant was Dallas County D.A. Henry Wade. Thus, Roe v. Wade. The court's favorable decision, written by Justice Harry Blackmun, made abortion legal nationwide in the first trimester of pregnancy, on the basis of a woman's right to privacy.
