Major League Baseball Player. For four seasons (2013 until his death), he was a pitcher with the Kansas City Royals. Born Yordano (Hernandez) Ventura, he was signed as an amateur free agent by the Royals in 2008. He made his Major League debut with Kansas City as a late season call up on September 17, 2013 and pitched in 3 games that season. In 2014, he earned a spot within the Royals' starting rotation and produced a career-high 14 games, as he contributed to Kansas City's capturing of the American League Pennant. He recorded a win during the 2014 World Series, in which the Royals would lose to the San Francisco Giants. In 2015, he experienced a world championship and pitched in one game during the 2015 World Series, as the Royals prevailed over the New York Mets. In 94 career regular season games, he compiled a 38 win, 31 loss record, with 470 strikeouts and a lifetime 3.89 ERA, in 457 innings-pitched. He died in an automobile accident in his native Dominican Republic.
