Western Gorilla. Colo made international history when she became the first Western Gorilla in the world ever born in captivity. In addition, she is also noted for being the world’s oldest gorilla ever on record. She touched the hearts of generations of zoo goers as an ambassador for gorillas. She was an inspiration for people to learn more about a critical endangered species and shaped the future of conservation to protect gorillas in their native habitat. She died in her sleep of natural causes at age 60. She leaves behind an extended family, including three children, 16 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren.
