Afghanistan Monarch. She was the wife and first cousin of King Mohammed Zahir Shah and the last Queen consort of Afghanistan. Together they had eight children. In 1946 Queen Humaira founded the Women's Society, the first ever women's institute in Afghanistan. In 1959 she supported the movement of removing the religious head scarf by removing her own. In 1973, Queen Humaira was visiting Italy with her husband when she and her family were exiled from Afghanistan. She remained in Italy, under exile, for the rest of her remaining 29 years. Queen Humaira passed away in a hospital in Rome, Italy a few weeks before she had planned to return to Afghanistan.
