President of Costa Rica. Picado Michalski served as president of Costa Rica from May 8, 1944 to May 8, 1948. Before serving as president, he was the president of the Constitutional Congress which was successful in passing many reforms advocated by then President Rafael Angel Calderon Guardia. Picado Michalski was supported by Calderon Guardia in the 1944 election and after an ugly and violent campaign, won the election. He was more moderate and enacted some reforms during his term and served until 1948. During the 1948 election Picado Michalski supported Calderon Guardia and after Calderon Guardia tried to "steal" the election from the apparent winner Otilio Ulate, an armed revolt broke out. Picado Michalski went to Nicaragua while the revolt was going on and stayed there after it finished. He passed away in Nicaragua and was brought back to Costa Rica for burial.
