Leading Founder of Pakistan. Hailed as the "Mother of the Nation", along with her brother Muhammad Ali Jinnah, Fatima struggled for the creation of Pakistan. Known for her devotion towards him and his dream, she remains considered as one of the most honoured leaders of her country. Born in Kerala in the then British India, present day Pakistan, she earned a degree in dentistry from the University of Calcutta, opening a clinic in Bombay in 1923. Closing it six years later in order to join her brother Muhammad, their lifelong companionship lasted until his death in 1948. Accompanying him in all of his public appearances, she founded the Women's Relief Committee and contested the 1965 presidential elections. A staunch defender of women's rights, she rose to become one of Pakistan's national symbols. Her death in Karachi in 1967 remains somewhat shrouded in mystery, with sources in regards of her cause of death varying from heart failure to beheading. Various parks, colleges and universities across the country carry her name.
