Rock Musician. A drummer, he is best known for co-founding the musical ensemble of 'Iggy Pop and the Stooges.' Raised in Ann Arbor, Michigan, he formed a band along with his older brother Ron in 1967. It was not until Iggy Pop joined when they found success and became one of the early music influences of the punk rock genre. Their self-titled album was released in 1969. Bassist Dave Alexander died in 1975. Following their breakup, Asheton remained close to Iggy Pop and continued to perform with him as well as other groups. He was on hand when the 'Stooges' reunited during the 2000s and remained an active performer after Ron's death in 2009. The 'Stooges' were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2010.
