Roman Catholic Cardinal. The son of José Vicente Concha, president of Colombia, and his first wife, Luis Concha Córdoba was born in Bogotá where he received his first education at home. Moving to Paris along with his father following the latter's appointment as ambassador in France, he entered the Seminary of Saint-Sulpice, later pursuing his studies in Rome at the Pontifical Biblical Institute. Ordained priest in Bogotá in October 1916 during the period in which his father was serving his presidential tenure, in the years which followed he was involved in various pastoral and academic ministries including those of chaplain of the apostolic school of Bogotá's cathedral, professor and prefect of studies at the conciliar seminary and at the "Colegio Mayor de Nuestra Señora del Rosario", director of the "El Catolicismo" journal, professor of religion at "Gimnasio Moderno", ecclesiastical censor, prebendary and canon theologian of the metropolitan chapter and general archdiocesan assistant of the Catholic Action. Appointed bishop of the diocese of Manizales, he received his episcopal consecration on November 30, 1935 in Bogotá. Promoted to archbishop when Manizales was elevated to a metropolitan see on May 10, 1954, he was transferred to the primatial metropolitan see of Bogotá on May 18, 1959 and named ordinary of the Military Ordinariate of Colombia the next day. President of the Episcopal Conference of Colombia, Pope Paul VI created him cardinal priest in the consistory of January 16, 1961 with the title of Santa Maria Nuova. Retiring from office in 1972, he passed away following a lengthy and painful illness at the Marly clinic in Bogotá.
