Entertainer. He dedicated his entire life to promote and recover the folklore and tradition of the Venezuelan plains (the "llanos"). He composed many songs that become hits like "Caballo Viejo" and "Bamboleo". His compositions has been performed by Plácido Domingo, Celia Cruz, Julio Iglesias, Ray Coniff and many others. In 2008 he won the Latin Grammy Award (Lifetime Achievement Award.)
