Actress, Singer. The winner of multiple awards, she was a star of her country's screen for more than 40 years. Though little is recorded of her early days, she was a young mother when she began a professional singing career around 1970; after gradually building a following, she made her 1979 silver screen bow in "Esok Masih Ada" ("There's Always Tomorrow"), her performance garnering her a Best Actress Award at the 1980 Malaysian Film Festival. She earned her second Best Actress honors in 1982 for "Langit Pentang" ("Evening Sky") and in the early 1980s had a hit with the song "Bawalah Daka Bersamamu", the piece becoming her signature. Azean recorded at least two albums, kept up a busy screen career, and was seen in a few television series. With time assuming 'grandmother' roles, she earned Best Supporting Actress Awards for 1996's "Sutera Putih" and the 2007 "Waris Jari Hantu" and was last seen on screen in 2009's "Talentime". Ill with breast cancer for some years, she died of hepatic failure caused by metastatic disease.
