World War I Victoria Cross Recipient. He served in the British Army during World War I as a Private in the 4th Battalion, South Wales Borderers Infantry Regiment. He was awarded the Victoria Cross for his bravery on April 9, 1916 at Sanna-i-Yat, Mesopotamia (now in Iraq). His citation reads "Private Fynn was one of a small party which dug in, in front of our advanced line and about 300 yards from the enemy's trenches. He went out and bandaged a number of wounded men under heavy fire, making several journeys in order to do so. Being unable to get a stretcher, he carried on his back badly wounded man to safety." Awarded the VC on November 5, 1916, he returned to his unit, and was mortally wounded in an engagement at Marl Plain, 50 miles north of Baghdad, in March 1917.
