Mildred Abagail Stroble, 93, of Vandalia, died on Sunday, Sept. 30, 2012, at Fair Oaks Nursing Home in Greenville.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday at First United Methodist Church in Vandalia, with Dr. Roger Grimmett officiating. Burial will be in South Hill Cemetery in Vandalia. Visitation will be held one hour before services on Saturday at the church.
Mrs. Stroble was born on Aug. 2, 1919, near Brownstown, the daughter of Josiah M. and Grace Pilcher Crawford. She graduated from Brownstown High School in 1938.
She married Paul E. Stroble on July 12, 1941, in St. Charles, MO. They spent most of their lives in Vandalia and were married for 58 years. He died in 1999.
She was a former employee of the G.C. Murphy store in Vandalia and was a tour guide at the Vandalia Statehouse. She and Paul were members of the First United Methodist Church in Vandalia. Over the years, she was active in the community including the church, the Jefferson School PTA, First Christian Church Sunday school, Cameo Club, Evergreen Outreach and Friends of the Old Capitol.
She is survived by her son, Paul, and his wife Beth of St. Louis, Mo.; and granddaughter, Emily of St. Louis.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Harold W. Crawford of Vandalia.
