Obit: Elder Ben Mahon Dead
Word was received here Tuesday morning that Elder Ben Mahon had died the evening before at the home of Charles Doolan, in Marion County. He had gone to Marion county to hold a series of meetings at what is known as the North Fork Church. Sunday he was stricken with paralysis and died, as above stated, at 7 o'clock Monday evening. His remains were brought home and buried in the home cemetery, the funeral being preached at the Four Mile church at 2 p.m. Tuesday.
Elder Mahon came with his family to Fayette county from Virginia many years ago. He has been a preacher in the Primitive Baptist church for over fifty years and is well known throughout a large part of Central and Southern Illinois. He was expecting to celebrate his eightieth birthday the 6th of next month and had invited numbers of his friends to participate in the festivities of the occasion. He was a unique character and his familiar face will be missed in our county.
