"John Timberlake, a printer by trade and a physician by profession.
In 1847, the teenager moved with his family from Dayton, OH, to Louisville, KY. At the Louisville "Democrat" he apprenticed as a printer and later went to work at the Louisville "Courier".
He became Dr. Timberlake in 1860, with an MD degree from the new Kentucky School of Medicine, part of the University of Louisville.
He practiced for many years in rural Floydsburg, in Oldham County, just outside Louisville. In 1887, he returned to Louisville and his final years of medical practice."
