Rena Lita Weinman Calhoun was born to Adam Weinman and Barbara Hoffman on Aug 6th, 1927 at Stuttgart Kansas and departed this life on June 14 1996 at her home in Lawton, Okla. Rena grew up in the German settlement of Mound Kansas, here in after known as Stuttgart Kansas. She attended school in Stuttgart and Phillipsburg.

When Rena was six years old, her mother Barbara Hoffman Weinman was burned in a kitchen fire in 1933 and died 12 hours later in the Norton KS Hospital. Such a tragedy for a six year old child to see. Thankfully, she could not recall the event. I suppose God did spare her that horrific memory.

Rena worked as a pie maker at the Woolworths Department Store Lunch Counter. Mom was married on Aug 14, 1945 to William Pierce Calhoun in Denver, CO and to this union four sons were born, Patrick preceeding her in death, and then her husband William P. Calhoun in 1981. Survivors include three sons: James, Charleston, S.C., Donald, Goldsboro, N.C. and Daniel, Houston, TX; one step-son Joe Peyton Calhoun, Houston TX; one brother Williard, Stuttgart, KS, one sister Della, Englewood Colo and several nieces and nephews. Phillips County Review 27 June 1996.

It's been 22 long years since Mom passed away. I suppose I really didn't know how special she was in my life, until I lost her.
