Charles's father died when he was very young and he was raised by his mother and grandfather Otis 'Ott' Elliott on the farm in Elkhorn Township.

He married Juanita Stout Purpus on March 15, 1941. The lived on the family farm with her daughter Jeaneen. Charles and Juanita were blessed with a daughter Judith Ann in 1943. Juanita died on April 12, 1945 of spinal meningitis. They were awaiting the birth of baby and the infant son was stillborn on April 12 1945 in the hospital in Quincy. Illinois.

He later married Donna Campbell in 1947 and they had three children. Mary Evelyn 1848, Charlotte Rae 1951 and Charles Lee 1964. Chuck died of leukemia in 1991.

Charles then married Faye Irene Friday in 1972.

Charles was an electrician, and earlier in life, he was engaged in farming and also was a TV repairman. He also had worked in real estate as a salesman.

He attended Hersman schools and graduated from Hersman High School. He was a member of Mt. Sterling Presbyterian Church of Christ and a former member of Hersman Presbyterian Church where he served as elder. He was a member of Siloam Springs Earth Science Club and Hersman Cemetery Board where he was currently serving as president. He always enjoyed camping and traveling, especially to the mountains of the West. He also took great pride in making jewelry from the gemstones he collected for his family and friends. At one time, he also enjoyed being a ham radio operator.

He is survived by his wife Faye, daughters Judith Ann (Robert Baird), Mary Evelyn Royer and Charlotte Rae (Mitch Cameron, one step-daughter Jeaneen Purpus (George Hess) and six grandchildren and six great grandchilden.

He was preceded in death by his parents, son Charles Lee 'Chuck', infant son, and grandson, Kevin Kelly.
