A. Lincoln Henderson of Meadville, died Monday after a long illness. He would have been 89 on July 21.
From the time he was a young man, he was employed by the Huidekoper family. He was the son of Richard Henderson, who came North in 1824 to escape slavery and operated the first barber shop in Meadville, where the Lafayette Hotel now stands. During one four year period, the family cultivated a flax farm in Greenwood Township, but retained the property in town.
His first work with the Huidekoper family was a coachman, but his duties included various phases of the family's activities, including "breaking" of fine saddle horses and their care.
